My boys and I

Hello World!

Now that we got that out of the way, I’m Rob, and this is my place.

Unfortunately, I spend most of my days playing the part of a front-end architect for Ogilvy & Mather playing with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Flash. However, I’d much rather be spending my days hanging out with the brothers knucklehead (left and center in photo at right). I guess that’s why we do the daily grind right? For them.

Prior to working for Ogilvy, I used to do the same sort of thing for Fry, Inc., an e-commerce agency in New York, NY. I enjoy the daily challenges of client-side engineering and that’s really one of the reasons I got into this wacky business in the first place. Neither of those gigs were nearly as fun or maddening as when I worked at UVM’s Center for Teaching & Learning.

I think the overall goal is to work for myself so that I can have my cake and eat it too. The guy who came up with that one didn’t have the power of the Internet at his fingertips, I can say that much.

Either way, when I’m not at work, I’m at home. Alas, after grappling with the notion of “home” and where I am for a long time, my family and I have recently (fall, 2006) made the plunge and moved back (for me, anyway) to New Jersey. This decision was precipitated by a pretty good offer from Fry, which was ultimately what it was going to take to get us to make a decision. After a year or so and a birth in Hoboken (the city of my own birth), we finally got to move into our house in the burbs. So now, Katie, Nicholas, Thomas and I live in Montclair, and we’re thoroughly enjoying it. It’s actually fairly similar to Burlington if you can believe there’s a place in Jersey that’s similar to a place in Vermont!

And of course, when I’m neither at work nor at home, I enjoy playing golf. Or, cooking, reading, watching movies, sampling new wines, or just resting, back at home.

The Sigma Protocol

by Robert Ludlum

I love Ludlum books because they take me to places I’d love to go. This one is no different: Switzerland, Austria, Switzerland, Austria, etc. Lots of fun in this one that’s effectively several global chases culminating in a castle in Austria.

Let's try to keep these things going.
